Check your institution or visa authority
There is no single PTE score that covers every course and visa. Use this checklist to collect the separate requirements from the organisations that will assess your application.
Checked 28 October 2026. Follow the official rules for your application date.
This is an independent PTE Karo checklist. The linked institution or government authority sets the final requirements. This is not immigration advice.
Check the exact institution and course
Open Pearson’s institution finder, then follow through to the institution’s own website. Look for the English-language requirement for your exact qualification, course and intake—not only its general international-admissions page.
- Write down the full test name and any excluded test versions.
- Record the overall score and every minimum skill score.
- Check test-centre delivery, any testing-country restriction and whether scores must come from one sitting.
- Check how recent the result must be and how it must be submitted.
- Ask admissions in writing if the course page and your offer are inconsistent.
Check Australian visa evidence separately
Open Home Affairs English-language guidance and the page for your exact visa subclass. Confirm the accepted test, evidence timeframe and required scores. A university’s admission threshold does not establish the visa threshold.
Use the rules for your test date: Home Affairs distinguishes tests taken before and from 7 August 2025. For destinations outside Australia, use that country’s own official immigration guidance rather than applying Australian rules.
Keep a requirement record
- Course, campus, intake and the institution’s official requirement URL.
- Visa country, exact route or subclass and its official evidence URL.
- Accepted test name, required scores, permitted result age and submission method.
- Any separate professional-registration requirement and written clarification.
Worked check: acceptance includes conditions
On 28 October 2026, Melbourne’s Level 1 table lists Academic 64 overall and at least 60 in each skill. A hypothetical result of 65 overall with Writing 59 fails that level’s writing condition. This is one institution’s level, not a recommended target for all Australian courses.
Its page also specifies a single sitting, centre-based testing, timing relative to study commencement and testing-country conditions. Check all those fields and your course’s actual level. A score comparison alone does not establish admission, and these institutional rules are separate from a visa rule.
What to ask when the published pages conflict
Send admissions a focused question: “For this course, campus and intake, which PTE product is accepted, what overall and skill scores are required, how recent must the test be at commencement, and how should I submit the result?” Include the conflicting official URLs and the wording in your offer. Avoid sending passport or payment details with a general enquiry.
For a visa uncertainty, identify the subclass and the specific evidence clause before contacting the responsible authority or a qualified adviser. A course adviser’s statement does not override Home Affairs. For professional registration, ask the relevant board; do not treat either an offer or a visa threshold as registration approval.
If your intake changes or you defer, repeat the date check before relying on the same result. Use the results guide to arrange Pearson verification, but follow the receiver’s own submission instructions.
When the requirements are clear
Return to the global study and Australia route, review PTE Academic and plan your booking. If requirements conflict, resolve them with the relevant authority before paying.
