Check your UK route and required test level
Before booking PTE Home A1, A2 or B1, identify your exact application, stage and required skills. This checklist leads to the official rules; it does not decide your immigration eligibility.
Checked 28 October 2026. Follow the official rules for your application date.
This is an independent PTE Karo checklist. The linked institution or government authority sets the final requirements. This is not immigration advice.
For a family visa, check the application stage
Use the family visa English page to check the first-application or extension rule. Read its exemptions and previous-evidence provisions before deciding whether you need a new test.
- Confirm that your application is under the family visa route, not a different dependant route.
- Identify whether it is your first application or an extension, and which level you previously proved.
- Record the required CEFR level and acceptable evidence from the official page.
For settlement or citizenship, check the exact rule
Read the settlement and citizenship overview and the rule for your exact route. Appendix KoLL explicitly raises its test-based speaking-and-listening threshold from B1 to B2 for applications on or after 26 March 2027. Check any applicable prior-evidence provision at the required level. Home B1 cannot prove B2.
Older qualifications have specific reuse conditions. A result accepted for an earlier application is not automatically reusable for every later one. Check the conditions for settlement and citizenship separately.
For citizenship, that guidance permits an expired B1-or-higher qualification if it was accepted when you settled; it does not need to remain on the current recognised list. The general settlement reuse conditions instead require current recognition and acceptance in an earlier immigration application, subject to the applicable route and date rules. Do not merge these two checks.
Match the level, test and location
Compare your requirement with Pearson’s A1, A2 and B1 test options. PTE Home proves speaking and listening only. If the official rule requires a higher level or four skills, do not book PTE Home for that requirement.
Use the approved SELT and location lists to confirm the exact product and centre. Select the outside-UK location list when testing in India.
Keep these details together before booking
- The exact application type: first family application, extension, settlement or citizenship.
- Intended application date, required CEFR level and the current official rule URL.
- Previous accepted evidence: product, level, date, reference and the decision in which it was used.
- The specific exemption or reuse provision, if relevant; do not assume one applies.
- If a new test is needed: full test name and level, approved centre, accepted ID and appointment.
Use the result reference—not a booking number
Pearson Home gives pass/fail at the level you booked, not four Academic skill scores. After the result is available, record the SELT URN shown on it. GOV.UK uses the reference for electronic verification. Check the result-access guide if you cannot find the official report.
A pass at the wrong level is not corrected by having a valid reference. For example, an A1 pass does not establish A2; a Home B1 pass does not establish a later B2 requirement. Resolve the level before booking, then compare the actual result with the application rule before submitting.
Book only after the level is confirmed
Return to the UK family and settlement route or the PTE Home test guide. If the rule or an exemption is unclear, seek clarification from the relevant authority or a qualified immigration adviser before paying.
